Just realized a comment about my dig photos changed everything

I used to post pics of my finds with just basic labels like 'Roman coin, 2nd century'. An older archaeologist told me my photos were missing context - like what layer I found it in and what was nearby. I added soil depth and neighboring artifacts info after that, and now people actually ask questions about the site instead of just scrolling past. Has anyone else gotten feedback that made them rethink how they share their work?

Adding layer info really makes you look at your own photos differently too.

Does adding that extra data change how you frame shots now?

Does it ever make you realize just how much you were winging it before? For me, it's like looking back at old photos and thinking "what was I even doing out there?" Adding the layer info makes me feel a little more in control now, even if I'm still just guessing half the time. I swear my camera settings back then were just "point and hope for the best." Now I can at least pretend I had a plan when I see the metadata, ha.
