Shoutout to the retired surveyor in Santa Fe who saved me from buying a fake pot
He ran his hand along the rim of a pueblo pot at an estate sale last weekend and pointed out the drill marks inside, which he said no 1800s potter would ever leave. I passed on the $900 piece, and two weeks later the same seller got busted for a whole table of fakes at a swap meet near Albuquerque. Anyone else run into these cast reproductions getting passed off as real?

Man, this kind of thing is everywhere now. I collect old tools and the amount of "vintage" stuff that's really just factory made last year is nuts. Flea markets, estate sales, even some antique shops don't know or don't care. What gets me is how good the aging tricks have gotten, they bury stuff in dirt, soak it in tea, whatever. Having a guy who actually knows what real wear looks like is worth more than any app or certificate.
