That Roman coin I found last week turned out to be fake, but the story got better

Found a silver denarius at a field near York last week, thought I hit the jackpot. Took it to a local museum and they told me it's a 19th century forgery, probably a tourist souvenir. But then the curator showed me how they spotted it, the lettering is too straight and the silver content is off. Now I'm kind of hooked on learning how to spot fakes, anyone else had a dud that taught them more than a real find?

Wait, they can tell it's fake just by the lettering being too straight? That's wild.
