The day we found a Roman coin in a field near York
We were on a community dig last month, and I was working a trench that had only turned up pottery shards. My trowel hit something flat and metallic about eight inches down. After brushing it off, I saw the clear profile of an emperor. The site lead confirmed it was a silver denarius from the late 2nd century. It was the only metal find from our whole week there. Has anyone else had a single small object make an entire dig feel successful?

Wow, that's incredible! It really shows how one perfect find can tell a bigger story than a whole pile of common stuff.

Exactly. It's all about that one good piece.

Yeah, that idea about "one perfect find" is so true. I see it all the time with old photos at yard sales. A whole box of blurry pictures says less than one clear shot of someone's face, you know? It's like the best piece holds the whole meaning. We sort of do this with memories too, where one clear moment stands for a whole year. Quality really does beat quantity.
