Thought the bone fragments from the trench dig were just animal scraps, then the lab in Flagstaff dated one at 8,200 years old
I spent almost 3 months hand washing and sorting what I thought was 40 pounds of deer bone from a site outside town, mostly because the first 20 fragments all came back as coyote on the quick scan. The grad student running the flotation tank kept saying the thickness looked off, so we sent 12 more pieces in, and the lab came back with a butchered bison radius that was way older than anything else on the site. Does anyone here know if that dating window even makes sense for this part of the Southwest, or should I be asking for a second test?
