Vent: I thought the 'Roman concrete' hype was just clickbait for years
Then I read that study from MIT last month about the lime clasts actually having self-healing properties. It totally flipped my view on how advanced their material science was. Anyone else have a discovery they were totally wrong about?

Yeah the self-healing thing got me too. I mean we always talk about modern tech being better, but it makes you wonder what other old methods we wrote off as simple. Maybe we lost some good ideas just because they came from a long time ago.

Roman concrete is a good example of that.

But we still build things that last centuries, and they built aqueducts. Progress isn't always about copying the past.
