I was dead wrong about gas station sushi
For years I thought anyone buying sushi from a gas station was insane. But last month I was stuck on a road trip near Bakersfield and stopped at this Chevron that had a whole refrigerated case from a local fish market. I grabbed a spicy tuna roll for $4.50 and it was actually fresh and good. Has anyone else had a random gas station or convenience store surprise them like that?

Not gonna lie, I read an article about this exact thing! They said gas station sushi in Japan is actually considered pretty legit, and places like 7-Eleven have a whole supply chain just for their fresh stuff. That spicy tuna roll sounds like a steal for $4.50, definitely better than paying $12 for the same thing at a chain restaurant.

Read an article that said some gas stations in the U.S. are actually partnering with local fish suppliers now. Makes sense they'd want to use up refrigerated space and compete with fast food prices. Glad you got lucky with that Chevron find.

Just check when they restock the ice machines cause that's usually the same delivery day as the fish. Grab it a few hours after and you'll get the freshest stuff.
