Serious question, is the 'ask anything' rule actually a good idea?
I was talking to my neighbor, a retired librarian, about this forum last week. She said, 'A space that promises no topic limits often ends up with no real depth on any of them.' That stuck with me. I used to think the total freedom was the whole point, but now I see how it can scatter focus. For example, a thread about fixing a leaky faucet gets buried by someone asking for movie recommendations. Has anyone else found that super broad forums are harder to get real, useful answers from?

My neighbor, a retired librarian, made me see it differently too.

My aunt was a librarian for 40 years and she gets stuff wrong all the time lol. I see your point @harpery47, but that quiet confidence doesn't always mean they're right.

Honestly, retired librarians are the secret weapon for any argument. They've got that quiet, "I've read everything" energy that just shuts down nonsense. Bet she hit you with some obscure historical fact that changed the whole thing.
