Spent 4 hours trying to fix a squeaky brake pad before realizing the caliper pin was dry
Turns out I was just grinding the pad down for no reason, has anyone else wasted a whole afternoon on something that simple?

Buddy of mine did the same thing on his truck last month.

Happens to the best of us. Bet you felt like a real genius when you figured it out. At least it's fixed now.

Yeah honestly that caliper pin thing gets a lot of people. But I gotta say, it's not really about dry pins making noise, it's more about them getting stuck and causing uneven pad wear. Squeaking usually comes from the pad itself vibrating or the shims being shot. What you probably had was a combo issue where the dry pin let the caliper hang up a bit, but the real fix is cleaning and greasing both pins with high-temp brake grease. Just throwing some lube on there without taking them out won't do much. Trust me, I've chased a bunch of these noises before and it's almost never just one thing.
