Spent $80 on a cheap dash cam and it saved me $1,200

I got into a fender bender last month at a stoplight in Austin. The other driver claimed I ran the light, but my $80 dash cam showed the truth clearly. That little camera proved it was totally their fault. My insurance didn't fight me at all because I had the footage. I just stuck it to my windshield and forgot about it until I needed it. Has anyone else had a cheap gadget save them big money like that?

Did yours have a wide enough angle to catch the intersection signs? My cheap one just barely caught the crosswalk lines and that saved me too.

Man that's exactly why I tell everyone to get one. Its crazy how much a little camera can save your butt when someone lies about what happened. Glad it worked out for you.

Man, I totally agree with you both. @nancy817, you're spot on about how much of a lifesaver these things are. But one thing I gotta mention - my cheap cam actually did catch the intersection signs, but the footage was a little blurry. It wasn't crystal clear HD like the expensive ones, but it was clear enough to show the crosswalk lines and which direction I was pointing. So even if it's not perfect, it's still way better than having nothing. That grainy footage still proved I wasn't lying.
