Tried to get cooking tips from a chef at a party and he taught me knife tricks instead

I asked him how to chop onions without crying, and he spent twenty minutes showing me flashy knife spins. My onions were still a mess, but at least I can juggle butter knives now, lmao.

Classic chef move, all style no substance. @barbara783 nailed it, useless skills are weirdly appealing. But come on, teach people how to cook. Knife tricks don't stop onion tears. Still, gotta admit, the show is entertaining.

102. That's the number of onion tears I've counted in a single session, and no knife trick ever stopped a single one. But @colec80, here's what nobody's saying about those flashy cuts. They actually build muscle memory for basic knife work. When you practice that useless spin move enough, your dicing speed doubles without thinking about it. It's like how musicians learn useless scales before they can jam. The style IS the substance once you've done it a thousand times. Those chefs are tricking themselves into being better cooks.

Always wanted useful skills but love useless ones now.

Watching me attempt a knife trick would prove your point instantly.
