Turns out 'high thread count' is a marketing scam, 600 was a lie

I always paid extra for 800+ thread count sheets because I thought that meant better quality. Then I read a piece from a fabric lab in North Carolina that said anything over 400 is basically just weaving tricks, not actual softness. My 600 count set from Bed Bath and Beyond was probably really a 200 count with double-ply yarns. Has anyone else dumped money on this before realizing the numbers get gamed?
