Why do so many posts here skip the basic details?

I've been hanging around this ask anything community and see this trend all the time. People throw out questions but forget to say what they already did to fix it. How can anyone give a real answer without knowing the full story? Like, if someone asks for help with a tech issue but doesn't tell us their computer model. Then we all just guess and it helps no one. It feels like a waste of everyone's effort when details are missing. Maybe we could have a sticky note about adding context?

Oh my gosh, yes! This drives me crazy too. Without those basic facts, everyone is just shooting in the dark. I once tried to help someone with a phone problem, but they didn't say what kind of phone it was. We went back and forth for ages before they finally mentioned the model. A sticky note or reminder would save so much time and effort. It really does feel like a waste when people leave out the key info.

Seriously, I'm guilty of this too, once asking for help with a slow computer but forgetting to mention it was older than my dog. It makes every answer a shot in the dark, and we all waste time circling the real issue. A sticky note is a good idea to poke people into sharing the basic facts first. I'd probably still post in a hurry and leave out key details, because that's how my brain works. But at least then we'd have a rule to point to when the answers make no sense. It would cut down on the back and forth that helps no one.
