Dropped $400 on a star tracker and it sat in the box for 6 months

Finally pulled it out last week for a clear night. Setup took me 2 hours. First photo was just the Milky Way core. Came out sharper than anything I got just holding the camera still. Anyone else buy gear and then feel too intimidated to use it right away?

Oh man, that hit way too close to home. I bought a star tracker two years ago and it's still collecting dust in the closet. I think half the intimidation is just the fear of messing up the setup and wasting a perfectly clear night. But your post kind of makes me want to finally drag mine out and give it a shot this weekend.

Dude, you're speaking my language! I was the same way with a used DSLR I snagged off Craigslist - sat in my bag for months because I was terrified of taking bad photos and wasting time. The setup anxiety is real, but once you get that first sharp shot, it's like a weight lifts off. I finally just watched a 10 minute YouTube video while eating breakfast one day, then forced myself to go out that night no matter what. Now I can set up in 20 minutes flat, and the only regret is not doing it sooner. That Milky Way shot you got? That's your reward for pushing through the fear.

Wait, are we really acting like setting up a star tracker is some kind of life or death thing? It's a tripod with a motor on it, not brain surgery. @harperg76 makes it sound like some deep emotional journey when you just had to plug it in and point it up.
