Finally got a clear shot of the Orion Nebula after switching from my old phone to a cheap DSLR.
Used my Samsung phone on a tripod for months, just got fuzzy blobs. Borrowed a friend's old Canon Rebel T3 with the kit lens for a night. Set it up on the same tripod, same spot in my backyard. The difference was crazy. The phone shot looked like gray soup. The DSLR caught the pink gas clouds and the Trapezium stars. It's not Hubble, but you can actually tell what it is now. Anyone else make a jump like that and have it just click?

Guess your phone thought the nebula was just a bowl of cosmic oatmeal.

My Pixel 7 got the Orion Nebula's color perfectly.

Honestly I had the opposite experience. My phone's night mode on a tripod gave me cleaner shots than my first try with a used DSLR. The learning curve for manual settings was real and my early DSLR pics were a blurry mess. It just took more practice for me to beat the phone.
