Found out the Andromeda galaxy is 2.5 million light years away and my brain just quit
I was scrolling through the pics people posted here and someone mentioned how Andromeda is the farthest thing you can see with your bare eyes, so I looked it up to check. 2.5 million light years. That means the light hitting my eyeballs left home about the time our ancestors were first banging rocks together. I sat on my porch for like 20 minutes that night just staring up at this fuzzy smear and trying to actually picture it, and honestly I couldn't. How do you guys wrap your head around these distances without your brain shorting out?
