Guy at the local astronomy club told me to ditch my tripod for Andromeda shots

He said to stack short exposures on a star tracker instead, and after trying it last Friday I got more detail in one hour than I did in three months of tripod work. Has anyone else had a club member give advice that actually changed their whole setup?

Did your friend also laugh at how much time you wasted lugging that tripod around, or was that just my club? I could have filled a small swimming pool with all the tears I shed over bad star trails before someone handed me a tracker.

Borrowed a friend's tracking mount for a weekend and it completely changed how I felt about the hobby. Sold my manual setup within a month after that.
