I was stacking my Jupiter shots wrong for months and didn't know it
I kept getting soft, blurry images from my backyard setup in Portland, even with good seeing. The issue hit me last Tuesday when I compared a single raw frame to my final stack and saw it had more detail. I was using too many frames and averaging out the sharpest moments. Anyone else run into this with planetary imaging? What's your cutoff for frame count?

What software are you using to stack your shots?

Seriously, why does it need special software?

The free version of DeepSkyStacker has been around for like fifteen years. You're telling me you've never even tried stacking before? It's the most basic step for any astro photo.
