Just got my first real shot of the Milky Way core after a crazy clear night
I drove out to Joshua Tree last Friday hoping for good skies, but the air was so still and dry it was unreal. I set up my old Canon 6D on a basic tripod and just did a 25 second exposure at f/2.8. When I checked the screen, the detail in the dust lanes was way better than I ever got before. Has anyone else had a night where everything just clicked like that?

The 6D can't do 25 seconds without star trails at that focal length.

Guess @derek_perez hasn't heard of stacking yet (it's a thing). You can totally get a clean shot with several 25-second frames. The math isn't always the boss of the final photo.

Wait, 25 seconds? That's crazy long for a star shot. Even at a wide angle, you'd get trails way before that. The rule of 500 would put you at like 10 seconds max on a full frame.
