My brother said all my space photos look the same now
He pointed out I only shoot deep sky objects like M42 and the Andromeda Galaxy, and asked why I never try planets or the moon. It made me realize I might be stuck in a comfort zone. Do you think focusing on one type of astronomy photo limits your skills?

... that's actually a fair point from your brother. I got stuck in the same rut with nothing but nebula shots for like a year. Switching to moon craters and planetary stuff really made me learn how to stack and process video frames, which helped my deep sky work too.

Read an interview with some pro astrophotographer who said he shoots nothing but the same 3 galaxies every year just to track his progress. Makes sense what @josepha32 said about comfort zones being okay if you're still learning. Sometimes jumping around too much just means you never get really good at any one target.

nah bro i feel that but like honestly theres something kinda magical about just getting one target down perfect. i spent three months straight just shooting the horsehead nebula trying to get the dust lanes right and my buddy was like "dude thats the same photo again" but it wasnt lol. every time i tweaked the exposure or the processing it looked totally different to me. i think comfort zones are fine as long as youre actually learning something new each time. switching to planets is good too but dont let him make you feel bad about loving deep sky stuff.
