My kid asked why the stars in my photos don't twinkle like they do outside
I was showing my 8-year-old my latest Andromeda shot and he said 'it looks flat, where's the sparkle?' It made me realize I'd been chasing perfect clarity so hard I forgot the magic of just looking up. Anyone have tips for capturing a bit of that atmospheric shimmer without losing detail?

Ever try a slight defocus? I messed around with taking a second shot just a tiny bit out of focus and then blending it very lightly with the sharp stack. It adds a soft glow that feels more like the real sky to me.

Remember my uncle saying his perfect landscape shots felt dead. He started leaving a lens smudge on purpose for one shot per roll. That weird habit gave his photos a breath you can't get from clean glass.
