My neighbor's porch light ruined a whole night of shooting last month
I drove 40 minutes out to the dark sky site near Big Bend last month, set up my scope, and spent an hour framing the Orion Nebula. Then a car pulled into the ranch lot nearby and left its headlights on for 20 straight minutes. The owner came out, apologized, but by then my long exposures were washed out. I got maybe two usable frames out of fifty. Does anyone scout for light pollution sources beyond just checking a dark sky map, or do you just accept the risk at public sites?
