Snapped a pic of the Milky Way over my backyard in Ohio last August and it changed how I see light pollution

I used a basic DSLR and a tripod I got for $50, and after stacking 15 images in free software I could actually see the galaxy core. The difference between what my eye saw and what the camera picked up after 20 seconds of exposure was wild. Has anyone else had that moment where a camera shows you way more than your naked eye could catch?

Actually read an article about how light pollution has gotten 10 percent worse every year since 2011, really puts things in perspective. Your stacking method is exactly the sort of workaround people use to see past all that orange glow from streetlights and neighbors' porch lights. Makes me wonder what our grandparents would have seen just standing in their backyards without all this artificial light everywhere.

ikr! I tried stacking a bunch of shots of the Milky Way last summer from my backyard and was shocked how much detail came through even with all the sky glow. Made me realize how bad it's gotten just in my lifetime.
