That 20-second exposure at Arches made me question gear snobs

Last month I stood at Delicate Arch with a tripod that cost $60 and a lens from 2012. Next to me was a guy with $8,000 of gear who kept muttering about his star tracker. We both shot the same Milky Way shot, mine at f/2.8 and his at f/1.4, and when we compared screens his was maybe 10% sharper. Is the extra cash really about the photo, or just the feeling of owning it? Anyone else had a moment where a budget setup held its own against the expensive stuff?

That 10% sharpness disappears the moment you print both at 4 feet wide.
