That chat with a park ranger in Moab made me rethink my Milky Way shots

I was out near Arches last weekend and this ranger pointed out how my framing kept putting the arch dead center, which killed the scale of the sky. She said to let the landscape anchor a corner instead, and I tried it that night, way more depth. Has anyone else gotten feedback that completely changed how they compose a shot?

Ha, "dead center killed the scale" sounds like a polite way of saying my photos looked like postcards from 2005. I got similar feedback once from a guy at a camera store who told me my shots looked "too polite." So I started shoving the subject into a corner like it was in timeout, and suddenly my photos had attitude. Now I can't even look at a centered composition without feeling like I'm at a boring family portrait.
