Blew $150 on a fancy paint gun that sprayed like a garden hose

I bought one of those high-end SATA guns last spring thinking it would save me time. First job with it, the fan pattern was all over the place and I had to strip and redo a whole fender. Turns out the air cap was fake or something, because my old $60 gun from Harbor Freight works better every time. Has anyone else gotten burned on counterfeit spray equipment from online sellers?

Geez man, that stings. I bought a so-called "pro grade" gun off eBay once and the first time I pulled the trigger it shot more paint on my boots than on the car door. Felt like I was trying to paint with a leaky squirt gun. Ended up using it as a fancy paperweight after that.

Haha "leaky squirt gun" is exactly right. I had a buddy who bought one of those cheap HVLP setups from harbor freight and it literally just spattered orange everywhere. Looked like a crime scene in his garage. He spent more time cleaning it than actually painting.
