Found a trick for blending metallic paint on a 2018 Honda Accord that saved me a respray

I was fighting a bad metallic blend on a rear quarter panel for 2 hours, then an old timer at the local paint supply shop said to spray the blend area at half the pressure and it laid down perfect, has anyone else tried dropping PSI on tough metallics?

Gotta disagree with you here. Metallic paints need a certain minimum PSI to keep the metallic flakes laying flat and even. Dropping the pressure like that can make the flakes stand up on edge, giving you a mottled or spotted look once it dries. I've seen guys try that trick on silver and it looked like a bad vinyl wrap job. I'd rather bump up the pressure and use a slower reducer to control the dry edge. Half PSI works for solid colors maybe but not for tricky metallics on a Honda.

Yeah man, @bettyroberts nailed it. I tried that low PSI trick on a silver metallic fender once. Looked like someone threw glitter at wet paint and called it a day.

Stevie Wonder could've laid those flakes down better with a shakeweight and a prayer.
