Got a 2008 Civic with a quarter panel that needed a full section versus just a patch.
The rust was about a foot long, right at the wheel arch. I could have cut out the bad spot and welded in a small piece, but the metal around it felt thin. I decided to replace the whole lower section from the body line down. It took most of a Friday to get the fit right, but the paint match came out perfect. Anyone else lean towards the bigger cut when the surrounding metal is questionable?

Ever think about how much time you save in the long run by doing the bigger repair now? I've been burned before trying to save a few hours with a patch, only to have the rust come right back a year later because the metal next to it was weak. It's frustrating to do the job twice. Now, if I poke around and the metal feels at all thin or scaly, the whole section gets replaced. It's more work upfront, but the peace of mind knowing it's solid is worth it.

My old Civic had a patch that lasted five years though, no issues.
