Mixed my own paint for the first time, match was way off

I finally stopped relying on the shop's premixed stuff and tried blending a custom color for a 2014 Honda Civic in that odd dark teal. Followed the formula off the computer, but the spray out looked almost purple in daylight, so I had to adjust with about 15 grams of black oxide. Any of you guys bother with that, or just order factory match every time and call it good?

Those paint mixing systems are only a starting point in my experience. I've had plenty of times where the formula looked right on paper but the flop or the metallic just didn't sit right once it hit the panel. The 15 grams of black oxide doesn't surprise me at all, that teal can be sneaky in different light. I usually grab a factory can for the base guess, but I always plan on doing at least one or two spray outs before I commit to the full job. It's not about being better than the computer, it's just that every car has its own history with fading and clears. Your mileage may vary, but I'd rather spend the extra hour tweaking than have to redo a whole panel.
