Mixing activator into filler in the gun was my big mistake

For maybe five years I sprayed body filler through a gun like everyone in my shop swore was the fast way. Last spring on a fender in Tulsa, the stuff started sagging mid-cure and I had to strip the whole panel. Turns out my catalyst ratio was off because I was eyeballing it in the cup instead of measuring, and a rep at a trade demo showed me the proper way. Now I mix by weight on a board every time, even if it's slower. Has anyone else found out the hard way that quick methods cost more time in the end?
