Picked a stud welder over drilling holes for a quarter panel, and I'm still not sure I won
Had a 2016 F-150 in the shop two weeks ago with a caved-in quarter panel right on a body line, and I had to pick between drilling holes for a slide hammer or breaking out the stud welder. I went with the welder because the customer was picky about rust down the road, and it took me 3 extra hours fighting with the ground clamp popping off on that aluminum panel. Pulled most of the dent clean but two studs blew through and I had to chase pinholes with a MIG anyway. Ended up with a decent finish after glaze and block, but man, some days the old drill and pull feels faster. Any of you run into that same tradeoff on newer aluminum bodies, and which one do you reach for?
