Shoutout to switching from 2K primer to a surfacer on that Harley tank yesterday
I spent 4 hours wet-sanding my last project trying to get orange peel out, but the surfacer laid down flat with just a dusting and saved me nearly half the time. Has anyone else noticed a big difference between primer types on small custom jobs?

I started with 400 grit on the old 2K and it still needed a full wet sand after. The surfacer I just hit with 600 dry, dusted it on, and it leveled out like butter. Way less elbow grease for sure on smaller projects.

Did you find the surfacer needed any different prep work before spraying compared to your old primer or did you just lay it down the same way?

laid down flat with just a dusting" is exactly what I'm trying to get on my next project, but I'm curious about the actual spray technique. Did you adjust your gun settings or distance at all when you switched to the surfacer, or did you keep the exact same setup you used for the 2K? I've been messing around with different tip sizes and it feels like the surfacer needs a finer mist to really self-level without getting that dry spray look. Also, did you have to thin it out at all or was it good straight out of the can for you?
