Switched from foam sanding blocks to durablocks on a 3-stage repair last week

The foam blocks kept leaving tiny waves in my primer, but the durablock cut flat and saved me like 20 minutes of wet sanding. Has anyone else made the switch and noticed a difference on metallic base jobs?

tiny waves in my primer" - were you using a specific grit progression when the foam blocks did that, or was it just the blocks themselves no matter what grit?

My buddy Dave had the exact same issue on a classic car project last spring. He was using 220 grit on a Dura-Block and got those little waves even with a brand new foam block straight out of the package. Ended up having to wet sand the whole thing with 400 to smooth it out before he could even lay down his base coat.

Yeah, I had that happen with a 78 Ford I was doing last summer. Switched from the hard foam block to just using a soft sanding sponge for the primer coats and that pretty much killed the waves. Also I found that if I let the primer sit for a full day instead of rushing it, the block didn't dig in as bad.
