That moment a customer's paint peeled off right in front of me
Tbh I was working on a 2015 Ford F-150 at my shop in Tampa last Tuesday and the customer was watching. I was sanding down a spot on his tailgate and the whole clear coat just started flaking off like potato chips. Turns out the previous shop had painted over a bad primer job and it was all coming loose underneath. I had to stop and tell the guy straight up it needed a full strip and respray. Has anyone else had to break that kind of bad news to a customer mid-job?

Man, that's a rough spot to be in. And yeah @susan_wright34 is right, it's awful having to drop that bomb, but honestly that paint failure was a ticking time bomb waiting to expose a shop's shoddy work.

Ugh that's the worst feeling. Had a similar thing happen with a Civic hood once, flaked off while the guy was looking right at it. Straight up awful to have to tell them it's gonna cost way more than they planned.
