Tried waterborne paint thinner on a classic car restoration and surprised myself
Been painting mostly solvent base for 10 years. Decided to try waterborne on a '67 Mustang last month at my buddy's shop near Nashville. The color match came out way better than I expected, but the drying time threw me off completely. Took almost twice as long between coats. Has anyone else made this switch and found a trick to speed up the flash time?

@lee_reed is right that color match matters most, but drying time gets REAL annoying when you're trying to layer clear on a hood and it's still tacky after 45 minutes. What clear system were you running with it? I've heard some guys swear by a hot air gun from like 2 feet away to kick the flash off faster, but I'd be worried about messing up the metallic flake on a classic like that.

'67 Mustang with waterborne? That's a bold move for a classic. But honestly, is drying time really that big of a deal when the color match is spot on?
