Vent: bought a cheap paint thickness gauge, cost me $400 in rework
Picked up a no-name gauge off eBay for $35 and trusted it on a used Cadillac last month. It read 110 microns on the hood, so I told the customer it was original paint. Turns out the battery was dying and it was actually reading half of the real thickness. The hood had bondo under cheap repaint and I had to strip and refinish it for free. Anyone else get burned by cheap testing tools, or do you stick with the trusted brands even at 5x the price?
