A master tech ripped my diag sheet apart in front of the whole shop, and he was right
About six months ago I handed a diagnostic writeup to the lead tech at our shop in Fort Worth and he read it for maybe ten seconds before saying "this is a story, not a test." He pointed out I had listed the fault code three times but never wrote down the freeze frame data or the fuel trims at idle versus 2500 rpm. I was pretty embarrassed at the time, but he showed me how two minutes of actual numbers would have pointed straight at the vacuum leak instead of me guessing at coils. Now every ticket I turn in has at least four hard readings on it, cold and warm, and my comeback rate dropped enough that the service writer noticed. It stings to get called out like that, but I'd rather hear it from someone on my side of the bay than from a customer two days later. Curious what kind of info other shops require on a diag before it leaves the building?
