Can we talk about the service writer who tells customers their cabin filter is "dangerous"?
Heard a guy at the counter in Reno tell a lady her $22 cabin filter was a safety hazard, and she okayed the $120 swap without blinking. I get that we all gotta eat, but lying to people about their own cars is how you lose the trust that keeps this trade alive, so where do you all draw the line on upselling?

Cabin filter is about air quality, not safety, so calling it dangerous is a stretch. The upsell itself is fine, it's the fake safety scare that crosses the line for me.

Yeah, and it gets worse once you notice the pattern. @blair_webb is right that the filter thing is harmless on its own, but the same fake scare tactic shows up on brake fluid, transmission flushes, all of it. Once they learn fear sells, every maintenance item becomes a safety emergency.
