Debate: Factory recommendations vs real world experience on oil change intervals
I stopped at a shop in Tulsa last week and saw a guy arguing with the owner about going 10,000 miles between changes on a 2015 Civic. Owner swore by 5,000 based on what he sees inside engines. Anyone else torn between what the manual says and what actually keeps things running?

Did the shop owner show him any actual photos or did he just say 'trust me bro'? Cause I'd be curious to see what 10k miles of conventional looks like in a 2015 Civic vs a 2020 model.

Man I'd love to see that too. Total guess but I bet the difference would be way more obvious in the 2020 with the direct injection and all that carbon buildup. The 2015 probably just looks like regular dark sludge. Wonder if the shop took any pics before they cleaned it out.
