Had a chat with a parts guy that made me rethink how I diagnose electrical gremlins

Respectfully, I've been burned enough times trusting parts counter advice on electrical issues to stay skeptical. Sometimes those guys are great, but I've also had them send me down the wrong path more than once.

Elliot, you've hit on something that goes way beyond auto parts. It's like how you can't just trust the "expert" at the big box hardware store when you're trying to fix a leaky pipe or pick the right paint. People get a little bit of training or have worked there a while, and suddenly they're the authority on everything. You have to learn the hard way that a title or a uniform doesn't always mean they've got the real world experience to back it up. It's a good reminder to do your own homework first, because that trust is earned, not given.

elliot_patel I feel you on that "sent me down the wrong path" part. I had a guy at a parts store swear up and down my issue was a bad ignition switch, so I spent a whole Saturday swapping it out. Turned out to be a corroded ground wire hidden behind the firewall that I found by accident when I was about to give up. Now I always start with the cheapest or easiest thing first even if the parts guy sounds super confident, and I keep a multimeter in my glovebox to double check anything before I buy parts. Saves me time and money in the long run.
