Hit 10,000 miles on my personal rebuild and it rode smoother than day one
I put together a 1990 F-150 engine from random junkyard parts back in March (my own dumb project). Ten grand later on the odometer and it's got better compression than the factory spec, which kinda blew my mind considering I'm no pro engine builder. Any of you guys tracked a personal rebuild past a big mileage point and saw it hold up better than you expected?

Have you ever had a build just... surprise you like that? I did a 350 Chevy from a C10 that was sitting in a field for like 15 years. Painted the block with Rust-Oleum in my driveway. Two years and 8,000 miles later I pulled a valve cover to check the lash and the oil was still golden. It's weird when junk parts just decide to cooperate. Sometimes I think these old blocks are tougher than we give them credit for. They don't care about fancy machine work, they just want to run.

You ever pull something out of a field and it just runs like it never sat? I had a 289 Ford from a '66 Mustang that was buried in mud up to the oil pan. Cleaned the carb, changed the plugs, poured in some cheap 10W30 and it fired up on the third crank. Drove it for four years, never even pulled the valve covers. Those old motors are built different.

That golden oil after two years is mighty suspicious. Did you rebuild it dry or break it in proper?
