That $200 tool set I bought off a classified ad was a complete bust

I figured I'd save some cash buying a used mechanic's tool set from a guy on Craigslist last month. He claimed it was 'gently used' with all the essentials, but when I got it home, half the sockets were stripped or just plain missing. I ended up spending another $80 at the parts store to replace the junk pieces, so I basically paid full price for a headache. The lesson for me was that buying used tools without checking each piece first is a recipe for wasted money. Has anyone else gotten burned on a deal like this where you thought you were being smart?

Honestly, "gently used" is code for "I dropped this off a truck at 60 mph." Ngl, I bought a "like new" drill from some guy and the chuck was completely stripped by the time I got it home.

Yeah, "gently used" is always a lie.

That $20 "gently used" coffee table I bought had a whole leg held on with duct tape... @uma_taylor47 you hit the nail on the head, it's almost never accurate. Three out of four things I've bought with that label needed some kind of repair.
