Update: I keep seeing techs skip the torque wrench on aluminum oil pans

Worked on three cars this week where the last shop overtightened the drain plug and stripped the threads. One was a 2020 F-150 with the 3.5L, and the pan was toast. The spec is usually 18-25 ft-lbs, but people just crank it with a ratchet. I know it's a quick job, but a new pan and labor is over 400 bucks. How many of you actually use a torque wrench for drain plugs, or am I just being too careful?

Tbh I started using a torque wrench after I had to fix a stripped pan myself.

So what's the spec on that F-150 pan? Just curious if it's on the lower end of that range.

Honestly saw a video about this exact problem last week.
