Why does nobody warn you about the lift arms at the shop on 5th street in Canton

I watched a guy lose two fingers to a drop lift at the Canton shop on 5th street 6 weeks ago because nobody told him to check the locks before going under, so now I say it out loud every single time, has anyone else worked somewhere that treats lock checks as optional?
