Hit 50,000 miles on my odometer the day I moved cross country, and now I'm second guessing the transport quote I booked
I moved from Portland to Austin last month and my car rolled over 50,000 miles on the trip. I had already booked a transport company before the move but ended up driving instead because the quote jumped from $950 to $1,400 when I called back two days later. Now I am thinking about shipping it back to Portland for a family thing in October and the prices I am seeing range from $800 to $1,600 depending on who I call. The mileage thing bugs me because I keep wondering if a car over 50k gets treated differently by brokers, or if it is all just pickup and drop off location. I used a small broker out of Dallas for a friend's car back in March and it went fine, $875 door to door, but I have also heard horror stories about damage claims. Does the odometer number actually make a difference in quotes or am I overthinking this? Would love to hear what people paid recently for a similar route.
Odometer reading does not change the quote at all, brokers only care about pickup and drop off zip codes plus whether it runs. The $800 to $1,600 swing you are seeing is just brokers marking up the same carriers, so call the actual transport companies directly and skip the middleman. Book at least 3 weeks out too, because last minute spots on that route get pricey fast.
