I finally stopped paying for door-to-door car shipping and saved $600 on a move to Denver
The so-called full service carriers quoted me $1,850 to move a Civic from Phoenix to Denver last month, so I tried terminal-to-terminal instead and paid $1,250 total. You drop the car at a lot outside the city and pick it up at another lot, and yeah it adds about 40 minutes of driving on each end. Has anyone else gone terminal-to-terminal, or am I the only one who thinks door-to-door is mostly a convenience tax?
The "convenience tax" part is where I see it differently. You're not just paying for the last 40 minutes of driving, you're paying for someone to be liable for your car from your driveway to the new one, and terminal lots are where damage claims and key mix-ups tend to happen. When I looked into this, the terminal option also meant my car sat for a couple days waiting on a full load, and I needed it the day after I landed. Saving $600 is real, but it only works if your schedule is flexible and you're fine with a little more risk on the handoffs.
