Question about paying a deposit up front for a broker, I was wrong to be scared of it
I always thought putting money down before a truck even showed up was a straight up scam, so for years I only booked carriers that took cash at delivery. Last month I shipped my dad's old Tacoma from Phoenix to Portland and the broker asked for a $150 deposit, and I almost hung up on the guy. I went ahead because he sent a written pickup window with the driver's name and DOT number, and the truck showed up a day early with the deposit already taken off the final price. Now I'm second guessing all the times I turned down a broker just for asking for cash up front. Has anyone here had a deposit go bad, or is it mostly fine when they give you the driver info in writing?
