Appreciation post: The grounding strap that saved my skin in Phoenix last July
I was working on a Cessna 172 at my hangar in Phoenix last July, the temp was 110 and I was rushing through a static discharge check on the nav com. I skipped hooking up the grounding strap because I was sweating and wanted to get inside, and when I touched the antenna bracket a spark jumped from my finger to the metal - scared me half to death. Has anyone else ever gotten lazy with grounding and had a close call that made you rethink your whole routine?

Grounding strap takes 30 seconds. Worth every second.

Hang on, is it really 30 seconds though? I mean by the time you walk back to the bench, unroll it, clip it to the chassis, and then remember where you left your coffee that you walked away from... it's more like a minute and a half. A small thing but it adds up when you're doing a whole PC build, especially if you're like me and have to stop and fumble with the alligator clip three times. Still agree it's worth the extra minute, but let's not undersell the effort here.

30 seconds now saves you a whole world of hurt later, that's for sure.
