Clearing up a stubborn autopilot fault on a Cessna 172 after two days of head-scratching
I spent the better part of two days chasing a pitch trim runaway fault on a 172N. The logs showed it had been an off-and-on issue for months. I finally found a tiny bit of chafing on a wire bundle behind the instrument panel, right where it passes through a bulkhead. A bit of loom and some fresh tie-wraps later, and the system has been solid for three weeks now. Has anyone else had a trim fault that turned out to be something simple like that?

Chasing down a wiring gremlin like that is the worst kind of puzzle. It always feels amazing to finally spot that one little spot of chafing after days of looking. Those intermittent faults are the absolute hardest to pin down, so finding it is a real win. Good on you for sticking with it and getting to the root cause. A bit of loom and some fresh zip ties is a pretty cheap fix for two days of frustration. Hope it stays fixed for you.

Yeah, it's that moment of pure relief when you finally see it... like @spencer_davis said, that one little spot. The worst part is the not knowing, when it works fine while you're testing it and then acts up the second you turn your back. Makes you doubt your own sanity. Sticking with it until you find it is the only way, even when you want to just start ripping the whole harness out. That cheap fix feels better than any fancy new part.

The real victory is when you stop doubting your own skills. That moment you find the problem proves you were right to trust the process, not just guessing. It turns frustration back into confidence.
