DAE think troubleshooting by the book beats going off the manual or the other way around?
Last Tuesday at our hangar in Boise I chased a bad VHF comm squawk for 5 hours, swapping a tray and then a coax run before I finally pulled the wiring diagram and found a chafed pin in a cannon plug the manual pointed me right to. Half our crew says you just follow the maintenance manual step by step, the other half swears gut instinct and a wiggle test saves more time than any flowchart. Which camp are you in when a squawk will not clear, and what was the last one that proved your point?
Swapping parts before reading the diagram is how you end up with two problems instead of one. Pull the book first, get the theory in your head, then go wiggle stuff with a purpose. Guys who skip straight to the wiggle test just get lucky sometimes and call it skill.
